The 28th edition of the International Exhibition of Building, Construction Materials and Public Works (Batimatec 2026) opened on Sunday at the Exhibition Palace in Algiers, attracting broad national and international participation in a sector increasingly positioned at the centre of Algeria’s economic diversification agenda.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Mohamed Tarek Belaribi, Minister of Housing, Urban Planning, and Territorial Development, in the presence of government members, the president of the National Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CNESE), the Director-General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI), the delegate wali of Algiers, as well as representatives of the accredited diplomatic corps.

Organised from May 3 to 7 by Algeria Exhibitions (a SAFEX subsidiary) and Batimatec Expo under the supervision of the Ministry of Housing, the event has consolidated its status as a key national and regional platform for stakeholders in construction, public works, and building materials.

This year’s edition brings together a wide range of public and private operators alongside foreign exhibitors from around fifteen countries, including China, Turkey, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. It also features 40 start-ups active in construction-related fields, reflecting the gradual integration of innovation and entrepreneurship within the sector’s development dynamics.

In his address, the minister underlined the growing strategic importance of energy efficiency in construction, stating that every kilowatt saved represents an investment in the future. He also stressed that significant state investment in digital infrastructure has strengthened digital sovereignty within the housing sector, contributing to improved service delivery and administrative modernisation.

He further described Batimatec as a strategic platform for exchange between industrialists, manufacturers, and professionals in construction materials and innovation, noting that Algerian products are increasingly competitive on international markets, supported by policies aimed at enhancing local integration in major housing projects.

The minister also called for deeper industrial integration in large-scale projects, particularly in equipment segments still dependent on imports such as elevators and air-conditioning systems, reaffirming the state’s commitment to supporting young investors in developing a stronger domestic production base.

Regarding the AADL 3 housing programme, he highlighted progress achieved through digitalisation, noting that nearly 950,000 subscribers have completed online payments, significantly easing pressure on banking structures.

He further announced the launch of construction works for around 131,000 housing units across the country, with progressive deliveries of AADL housing units expected in several wilayas before the end of the year.

Closing the event, he paid tribute to sector officials and reiterated that the programme enjoys the highest level of state support, stressing that housing is being consolidated as a fundamental right for citizens rather than a deferred aspiration.
