Why Does “Dzair Tube” Assert the Slogan “The First Digital Channel in Algeria”? A Question Answered Through History, Reach, and Performance – BY Maamar Gani

Many observers rightly question the validity of the assertion that “Dzair Tube” is the first digital channel in Algeria, and whether this slogan reflects branding ambition or a factual media distinction. This article revisits the origins of the assertion, tracing its emergence, development, and achievements in order to provide a comprehensive, evidence-based answer grounded in historical trajectory and measurable performance.

The slogan “The First Digital Channel in Algeria,” adopted by Dzair Tube, is neither rhetorical exaggeration nor marketing invention. It is not the product of branding improvisation or competitive positioning through provocation. Rather, it reflects an operational and chronological reality supported by verifiable milestones. The platform maintains that its identity is anchored in factual precedence within Algeria’s digital media landscape.

Founded in 2018, Dzair Tube Media Institution was established with a forward-looking vision aimed at embracing new media ecosystems and social platforms at a time when digital journalism in Algeria was still in its formative stage. The choice of the term “TUBE” was deliberate, symbolically emphasizing video-driven journalism as the core of content production and audience engagement. The original visual identity, featuring a screen-based logo incorporating the word “TUBE,” reflected this strategic orientation toward audiovisual storytelling in an era defined by the rapid expansion of smartphones and digital consumption.

From its inception, Dzair Tube positioned itself in a media environment still largely dominated by traditional broadcast structures. Despite institutional and regulatory delays in structuring the digital sector, the platform entered the field with a strong editorial and operational commitment, even when digital journalism lacked formal recognition comparable to television networks. Operating initially under a commercial framework, the team embraced a high-risk pioneering model that nevertheless established a foundational presence in Algeria’s emerging digital media space.

Over time, Dzair Tube’s early entry into video-based digital journalism contributed to shaping the contours of a new media ecosystem. Its model encouraged the emergence of subsequent online channels, effectively normalising digital-first content production in Algeria. In this sense, its role is often described by observers as foundational rather than merely competitive, marking an early structural contribution to the country’s digital transition.

Contrary to narratives of exclusivity, the platform has consistently framed its position not as monopolistic but as developmental, advocating for the expansion of the digital media sector in Algeria. Its editorial philosophy is rooted in open competition and collective growth, with repeated encouragement for the proliferation of new digital outlets as part of a broader national media ecosystem.

Since 2018, Dzair Tube has maintained continuity between its founding vision and its operational output. Its performance metrics, particularly in terms of audience reach, reflect sustained engagement and high visibility across digital platforms. The platform’s expansion into multilingual content, including Arabic, French, and English, further reinforced its positioning as a transnational media interface capable of addressing both domestic and international audiences.

Dzair Tube also attributes part of its institutional development to broader reforms in Algeria’s media sector under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, particularly in relation to the legal recognition and regulation of electronic journalism. The integration of accredited digital media into public communication frameworks, including advertising and institutional visibility mechanisms, is presented as a key factor in the sector’s consolidation.

Organisationally, Dzair Tube is led by a structured editorial and managerial team supported by journalists, technicians, correspondents, and contributors distributed across Algeria and abroad. Its multilingual English edition has gained particular attention among diplomatic, academic, and international readerships, extending its reach beyond national boundaries and positioning it within global digital media circulation networks.

The platform’s institutional footprint has also been reinforced by its audience metrics across digital ecosystems. With substantial engagement across video platforms and social media channels, Dzair Tube reports significant cumulative viewership figures, reflecting its penetration into diverse demographic segments. Its production capabilities are further supported by professional studios and technical infrastructure enabling high-quality audiovisual output, including interviews, documentaries, and live programming.

The success of “Dzair Tube” is led by the Chief Executive Officer of the media group, Maamar Gani, and the General Manager, Madjoub Bensalah (known as Toufik), supported by a workforce of more than 48 employees, including journalists, administrators, technicians, and cameramen, in addition to over 45 correspondents across Algeria and abroad, notably in France and Spain. This structure is further reinforced by a network of established writers and contributors operating both domestically and internationally.

The news platform “Dzair Tube,” editorially headed in its Arabic edition by the distinguished journalist Mohamed Kahlouche, has consolidated its position among Algeria’s leading digital media outlets, consistently ranking at the forefront of the sector. It delivers a diversified editorial output encompassing exclusive, real-time, and in-depth reporting, alongside high-level interviews and analytical coverage of local, national, and international affairs, published across its Arabic, French, and English editions.

The group has previously marked its presence in the digital media landscape through several distinctions, including the President of the Republic Award for Professional Journalist in the digital press category (22 October 2022), the “Media Leadership Award,” and the “Crescent (Hilal) of Television” distinction, recognising it as the first digital channel at national level.

Dzair Tube reports approximately 600,000 subscribers on YouTube, alongside millions of followers across its official Facebook ecosystem, which alone exceeds 6.3 million followers. Its reach extends further across TikTok, Telegram, X (formerly Twitter), as well as Instagram and LinkedIn.

The platform publishes content in three languages, with its English edition experiencing notable expansion under the editorial leadership of senior journalist Dr. Hana Saada. The edition has attracted attention from political, economic, diplomatic, and cultural stakeholders, while also gaining visibility among international media outlets, including platforms in the United States, the Netherlands, Russia, China, India, and Saudi Arabia, many of which republish its content with attribution. It is also followed by foreign diplomatic missions accredited in Algeria.

Beyond national borders, Dzair Tube has established a visible presence in regional media consumption patterns, ranking among the most-followed Algerian digital platforms in Morocco, underscoring its cross-border reach and growing regional footprint.

This expansion reflects the platform’s consolidation as a significant actor in the Maghreb digital media space, driven by a clear editorial identity, rapid news delivery, and a consistently assertive coverage style, contributing to sustained international visibility within a competitive digital environment.

At the level of its digital channel, where media professional Mohamed Sadek Bouziane serves as News Director, Dzair Tube has recorded strong performance across social media platforms, achieving record levels of engagement and viewership.

The channel’s official Facebook page registered approximately 3.2 billion views over a one-year period across its diversified programming, spanning news, sports, entertainment, cultural, and religious content, reflecting both volume and audience diversification.

Affiliated and supporting pages generated an additional 1.5 billion views over the same period, further confirming the scale of its digital penetration across Algeria and beyond.

This performance is supported by professional television studios and advanced production infrastructure, enabling the creation of high-quality reports, short-form productions, and widely circulated programmes, reinforcing its position as a hybrid digital media actor combining technical capability with editorial output.

The channel also operates an interactive studio hosting influential figures from multiple sectors, including politics, sport, economics, society, religion, and health. The platform is managed by a specialised editorial and technical team dedicated to producing structured and informative content.

Guests have included analysts, journalists, and public figures such as sports analyst Ibrahim Chaouche and media professional Walid Al-Akel, alongside parliamentarians and political party representatives. Their participation has contributed to enhancing debate depth and reinforcing content credibility.

These interventions have strengthened Dzair Tube’s positioning as an open editorial platform, capable of attracting figures from across Algeria’s political, media, and sporting spheres, while contributing to structured public discourse.

The channel relies on a core team of journalists and media professionals, including Mohamed Sadek Bouziane, Samir Badi, Hamza Rezig, Samir Bourezg, Abdelnour Hawaz, Oussama Ezzeddine, Nazim Kadi, Haroun Gattaf, Meriem Djoudi, Hanane Mehdi, and Rayan El-Abedi, whose field reporting and editorial work have contributed to record performance metrics and sustained cross-platform visibility.

Meanwhile, the affiliated print sports title “Dzair Sport,” supervised by senior journalist Samir Badi, records more than 50,000 daily downloads via the Dzair Tube platform, under the editorial direction of Abdallah Kharachi and journalist Walid Saadaoui.

At the website level, journalists Kamal Allag and Ahmed Achour contribute regular news and analytical reporting aligned with editorial standards centred on speed, accuracy, and professional integrity.

The sports desk, led by editor-in-chief Ayoub Ben Moumen and his team, delivers specialised coverage and analysis, reinforcing the platform’s credibility as a structured and reliable digital news source.

Building on these developments, the Chief Executive Officer of Dzair Tube Group, Maamar Gani, is pursuing an expansion strategy aimed at developing a larger institutional headquarters equipped with advanced studios, positioning the group among leading continental media institutions and enhancing its competitive stance within the regional digital media landscape.

Dzair Tube is also described as a media institution engaged in strategic communication coverage, with a firm editorial posture regarding regional geopolitical narratives. It dedicates significant resources to written, audio, and visual production across its platforms.

At the same time, the group emphasises values of social cohesion, tolerance, and national unity, while also producing humanitarian and social programming. Some initiatives have included support schemes such as housing assistance, pilgrimage facilitation, and financial aid during special programming periods.

The group extends gratitude to its millions of followers, correspondents across Algeria, its France-based office serving the diaspora, and its institutional partners and sponsors, acknowledging their role in its sustained growth.

Dzair Tube pledges continued production of diversified content aligned with audience expectations and evolving media consumption trends.

Future developments include the launch of a new website version incorporating additional languages such as Spanish and Italian, aimed at expanding international reach.

On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, observed annually on 3 May, the Chief Executive Officer of Dzair Tube Group extends his congratulations to all staff and the wider media community, wishing continued professional success and advancement.
