Algeria–Italy: New Direct Maritime Route Connects Annaba with Civitavecchia Port near Rome
A new direct maritime service between Annaba and Italy’s Civitavecchia port is now operational, offering two weekly crossings and providing an additional travel option for Algerian citizens and members of the national community residing in Italy.

ALGIERS – Algeria has strengthened its maritime connections with Italy with the launch of a new direct route linking the port of Annaba with the port of Civitavecchia, near Rome, providing an additional travel option for citizens and members of the Algerian community residing in Italy.
The new service comes as part of instructions issued by Minister of Interior, Local Assemblies and Transport Saïd Sayoud to improve travel conditions, strengthen Algeria’s maritime transport network and develop connections with European ports.
The inaugural crossing of the new route docked at the port of Annaba on Sunday, carrying several members of the Algerian national community residing in Italy.
Upon arrival, passenger and vehicle reception and processing operations were carried out under coordinated conditions involving the maritime border police, customs services and port authorities.
This coordination is intended to facilitate procedures, reduce processing times and provide travelers, particularly members of the Algerian community abroad, with improved reception and travel conditions.
Two crossings per week
The new maritime service will operate two crossings per week, expanding travel options between Algeria and Italy and responding to growing demand for maritime transport between the two countries.
For August, five crossings are scheduled for August 9, 19, 23, 26 and 30.
For September, four crossings are scheduled for September 2, 6, 9 and 13.
According to the ministry, arrivals are scheduled for Sundays and Wednesdays, in accordance with the timetable established for the new service.
Beyond its logistical role, the new route is expected to strengthen mobility and exchanges between Algeria and Italy by creating an additional maritime link across the Mediterranean.
