Photos: Niger Receives Algeria’s Military Aid, Including Four Helicopters, as Niamey Hails Bilateral Defence Cooperation
The Algerian Defence Ministry says Niger has received a military donation comprising four helicopters and related equipment, with Nigerien authorities expressing appreciation for the initiative and Algeria’s continued support for bilateral defence and security cooperation.

NIAMEY, Niger — Niger has received a military donation from Algeria comprising four helicopters and associated equipment, in a move aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in defence and security, Algeria’s Ministry of National Defence said Monday.
The donation, delivered on Sunday, was made pursuant to instructions from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defence.
The package includes two MI-24V helicopters and two MI-171 helicopters, along with additional military equipment transported aboard an Algerian Air Force military transport aircraft.
The equipment was received at Niamey airport by Brigadier General Salifou Maïnassara, Chief of Staff of the Nigerien Air Force.
According to the Algerian Defence Ministry, the Nigerien military official welcomed the initiative and conveyed the appreciation of Niger’s senior authorities to the Algerian people and state, particularly President Tebboune, for the donation.
The delivery followed an order issued by General of the Army Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army.
The helicopters and associated equipment were transported on August 9 from the secondary deployment base at In Guezzam in Algeria’s 6th Military Region to Niamey.
The operation forms part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Niger, particularly in defence and security, the exchange of expertise and various forms of support, the ministry said.
The delivery comes as Algeria continues to emphasise security and stability in its immediate neighbourhood, while seeking to deepen defence cooperation with countries across the Sahel.
