Brahim Boughali, speaker of Algeria’s lower house, held talks by videoconference on Wednesday with his Kenyan counterpart, Moses Wetangula, on strengthening parliamentary cooperation and broader bilateral ties, according to a statement from the assembly.
Both sides welcomed the strength of relations between the two countries and noted alignment on a range of regional and international issues. They reaffirmed their intention to intensify cooperation between their respective legislatures, with a view to supporting bilateral ties and expanding coordination in multilateral forums.
The discussions also highlighted the need to align economic cooperation with the quality of political relations, with both officials pointing to Africa’s potential to enhance economic sovereignty and drive sustainable, self-reliant development.
On continental challenges, the two sides reiterated their commitment to the principle of “African solutions to African problems”, calling for coordinated and effective action.
