Mourad Adjal, Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, received Andrés Rebolledo Smitmans, Executive Secretary of the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLADE), for talks on strengthening cooperation in renewable energy.
According to a statement from the ministry, the meeting held Tuesday in Algiers, in the presence of senior officials, focused on expanding partnership prospects and reviewing Algeria’s energy transition agenda.
Mr Adjal outlined key development projects under way in the sector, underlining Algeria’s position as a reliable partner and a major contributor to regional and international energy security. He highlighted progress under the national renewable energy programme, which targets 15,000 megawatts of installed capacity from clean sources in the long term.
He also detailed efforts to scale up hydrogen, solar and wind energy projects, framing them as part of a broader global energy transition, while stressing measures to reduce carbon emissions and improve efficiency. He further reviewed the wider energy value chain, including electricity and gas production, transport and distribution, as well as training and equipment manufacturing, with an emphasis on modernising consumption patterns and drawing on OLADE’s experience.
Mr Rebolledo, for his part, reviewed energy transition trends in Latin America and the Caribbean and reiterated OLADE’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Algeria.
The meeting concluded with agreement to prepare a memorandum of understanding to broaden cooperation in energy and renewable energies.
