Algeria urges digital firms to expand into African markets
By Dr. Hana Saada
Algeria’s minister of post and telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, has urged domestic digital services companies to expand beyond the national market, warning that local demand is approaching saturation.
Speaking on the sidelines of the African Digital Transformation Summit in Algiers, Mr Zerrouki said Algerian firms have reached a level of maturity that positions them to compete abroad. “Companies now know their clients and each other,” he said, arguing that this familiarity should drive a shift towards international markets, particularly within regional economic frameworks.
He called for fuller use of the African Continental Free Trade Area, alongside deeper engagement with west African markets and stronger participation in international events, both on the continent and beyond.
Growth prospects, he added, increasingly lie outside Algeria. Africa is expected to post some of the world’s highest economic growth rates in the coming years, offering significant opportunities for Algerian firms seeking expansion.
The summit, now in its sixth edition, is being held from April 21 to 23 at the Palais des Expositions in Algiers, under the patronage of several ministries, including interior, transport, digital economy and health.
