NEW YORK — Algeria is presenting its latest progress on the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the 2026 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), with a delegation led by Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lounès Magramane.
The annual forum, which opened on Monday at United Nations Headquarters in New York and runs until 15 July, brings together government representatives, international organisations and development partners to assess global progress towards achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
This year’s edition is being held under the theme: “Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals, leaving no one behind.”
During the forum, Magramane is expected to outline Algeria’s progress in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals while highlighting national policies aimed at promoting inclusive economic growth, social development and environmental sustainability.
A central element of Algeria’s participation will be the presentation of its Second Voluntary National Review (VNR), entitled “Algeria Towards a Future Based on Sustainability, Social Inclusion and Innovation.”
The report provides an assessment of the country’s progress in implementing the 2030 Agenda, reviewing achievements across a range of development priorities while outlining ongoing efforts to strengthen sustainable development policies and improve socio-economic resilience.
Voluntary National Reviews constitute one of the principal mechanisms through which UN member states report on progress made towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The reviews also provide an opportunity to share national experiences, identify remaining challenges and exchange best practices with the international community.
Algeria’s participation in the High-Level Political Forum reflects its continued engagement with multilateral development processes and its commitment to implementing the objectives of the 2030 Agenda through policies centred on sustainability, social inclusion and innovation.
