Algeria, China Explore Expanded Partnership in Agriculture and Food Industries
Talks focused on agricultural technology, food processing, grain storage, research cooperation and expanding trade, as both sides seek to translate bilateral ties into new investment opportunities.

ALGIERS — Algeria and China are exploring new avenues for cooperation in agriculture and food industries as part of broader efforts to expand bilateral economic and investment ties, following talks held on Monday between Algeria’s Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Yacine El Mahdi Oualid, and Zhang Ming, Vice Governor of China’s Henan Province.
The meeting took place during the Chinese official’s visit to Algeria at the head of a high-level delegation and was attended by the Chinese ambassador to Algeria.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, both sides welcomed the longstanding relationship between Algeria and China and reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the economic and commercial spheres, with agriculture and agri-food industries identified as priority sectors.
Discussions focused on opportunities to deepen cooperation between Algeria and Henan Province over the short and medium term through expanded trade and stronger partnerships between businesses and economic operators from both sides.
Zhang expressed Henan Province’s interest in importing high-quality Algerian agricultural products to meet demand in the Chinese market and neighbouring countries, highlighting the tariff exemptions granted by China to African exports as an opportunity to expand commercial exchanges.
The two sides also explored prospects for cooperation in agricultural technology, smart farming, the manufacture and import of agricultural equipment, grain storage infrastructure, and the development of food processing industries.
As part of efforts to translate discussions into concrete projects, Algeria and Henan agreed to encourage companies and economic operators to participate in the International Exhibition on Agriculture, Agricultural Equipment and Food Industries, scheduled to take place in Henan Province next October. The event is expected to provide a platform for promoting Algerian products, exchanging expertise and establishing new business partnerships.
The meeting also examined prospects for scientific cooperation through a proposed agreement between Algeria’s National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRAA) and a university in Henan Province. The proposed partnership would focus on joint agricultural research, particularly in the development of improved and resilient seed varieties.
