ALGIERS — Algeria’s Ministry of National Defence (MDN) announced on Monday that the Army’s Central Security Services had dismantled a criminal group affiliated with the terrorist Movement for the Self-Determination of Kabylie (MAK) in the wilaya of Tizi Ouzou.
According to an official ministry statement, the operation was carried out within the First Military Region as part of ongoing field efforts to safeguard citizens’ security and following the effective exploitation of intelligence information.
The MDN said the group consisted of six individuals, including four Moroccan nationals who were residing illegally in Algeria.
According to the ministry, the group was active in the region during the legislative elections and sought to disrupt the smooth conduct of the vote and prevent citizens from participating in the electoral process.
The Defence Ministry said the operation resulted in the arrest of all six suspects, describing it as an illustration of the vigilance of Algeria’s security services and their capacity to thwart criminal plans targeting the country’s security and stability.
