ALGIERS — Ahmed Fouhal, a student from Batna province, has emerged as Algeria’s highest-performing hearing-impaired candidate in the 2026 national baccalaureate examination, earning a score of 17.05/20 in an achievement that highlights determination, academic excellence and the growing aspirations of students with disabilities.
Fouhal, who studies at Abdelkader Belaïd Secondary School in the municipality of Merouana, secured first place nationally among candidates with hearing impairments, according to the official results of this year’s examination.
His success comes amid a broader recognition of outstanding performances by candidates with disabilities during the 2026 baccalaureate session, reflecting ongoing efforts to promote equal educational opportunities and academic inclusion.
Academic ambition beyond the classroom
Speaking after the results were announced, Ahmed’s father, Boudjemaa Fouhal, described the achievement as the culmination of years of dedication and perseverance.
He said his son had demonstrated a strong commitment to learning from an early age and had consistently pursued academic excellence despite the challenges associated with his disability.
According to his father, Ahmed now hopes to continue his higher education in one of the emerging scientific disciplines shaping the future economy, with a particular interest in artificial intelligence or cybersecurity, fields that reflect his longstanding passion for mathematics and physics.
His achievement adds another inspiring story to this year’s baccalaureate results, illustrating how determination, family support and educational commitment continue to enable students to overcome barriers and pursue ambitious academic and professional goals.
