ALGIERS — Algeria and Mozambique have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral economic relations, with Mozambican officials encouraging greater Algerian investment while both countries explored ways to expand trade and deepen commercial cooperation.
Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion Kamel Rezig met in Algiers on Tuesday with Mozambique’s Secretary of State for Trade, Antonio Grispos, to discuss mechanisms for enhancing economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, according to a statement issued by the ministry.
The meeting, attended by a delegation of Mozambican business representatives, focused on measures to increase bilateral trade, expand Algerian exports to the Mozambican market and create new opportunities for private-sector cooperation.
Rezig reaffirmed Algeria’s readiness to broaden the presence of Algerian products in Mozambique, describing stronger commercial engagement as a means of advancing shared economic interests and reinforcing the bilateral partnership.
For his part, Grispos highlighted Mozambique’s strategic location as a gateway to East African markets and encouraged greater Algerian investment in the country. He said investment projects by Algerian companies could use Mozambique as a platform to access a regional market of more than 470 million consumers, offering broader opportunities for expansion across East Africa, according to the ministry.
The discussions reflect broader efforts by both governments to diversify economic partnerships within Africa, strengthen South-South cooperation and promote greater intra-African trade and investment in line with continental economic integration objectives.
