Algeria, United States Expand Agricultural Cooperation with New Livestock Trade Agreement
By Dr. Hana Saada
ALGIERS, June 16— Algeria and the United States have agreed to expand bilateral agricultural cooperation through the opening of the Algerian market to imports of U.S. sheep intended for slaughter, marking a new development in agricultural trade relations between the two countries.
The agreement was reached between the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Algeria’s Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, according to a statement issued on Monday by the U.S. Embassy in Algiers.
Under the arrangement, Algeria will allow the import of American sheep for slaughter purposes, creating a new export channel for U.S. livestock producers while broadening Algeria’s sources of supply in the livestock sector.
The U.S. Embassy described the agreement as “an important new chapter” in agricultural relations between the two countries.
“This agreement marks an important new chapter in the agricultural relationship between the United States and Algeria and further strengthens the United States as a reliable supplier of high-quality livestock,” the embassy said.
The latest measure reflects growing agricultural cooperation between Algiers and Washington, as both countries seek to deepen trade ties and diversify areas of economic partnership.
