Algerian Army Seizes More Than One Million Pregabalin Pills in Tamanrasset Anti-Trafficking Operation
By Dr. Hana Saada
Algerian army units operating in the southern military sector of Tamanrasset seized more than one million pregabalin 300 mg capsules and arrested two suspects during a major counter-narcotics operation conducted on Sunday, the Ministry of National Defence said.
According to the ministry, combined detachments of the People’s National Army (ANP) carried out the operation as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle smuggling and psychotropic drug trafficking networks operating across southern transit corridors.
The operation, launched following the exploitation of field intelligence, led to a carefully coordinated ambush targeting a four-wheel-drive vehicle suspected of being used in trafficking activities.
Military units also confiscated sophisticated communication equipment during the raid, the ministry added.
Authorities described the seizure as a further indication of the ANP’s heightened operational vigilance and sustained mobilisation against attempts to introduce and distribute psychotropic substances across Algerian territory.
The operation underscores the growing strategic focus placed by Algerian security forces on disrupting trafficking networks linked to cross-border criminal activity in the Sahel region.
