Algerian Legislative Campaign Enters Ninth Day with Focus on Stability and Institutional Consolidation

ALGIERS, June 17 — Political party leaders campaigning for Algeria’s legislative elections scheduled for July 2 placed national stability, institutional strengthening and voter mobilisation at the centre of their messages on Wednesday, as the campaign entered its ninth day.

Candidates and party officials across several provinces urged citizens to participate widely in the vote, describing the election as a key milestone in reinforcing democratic institutions and addressing the country’s economic and social challenges.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Biskra, National Liberation Front (FLN) Secretary-General Abdelkrim Benmbarek said the upcoming vote offered Algerians an opportunity to renew their support for the country’s development agenda and contribute to building what he described as a “strong and victorious Algeria.”

Benmbarek characterised electoral participation as both a civic duty and a responsibility, calling on voters to use their ballots to support stability, development and the consolidation of state institutions.

In Souk Ahras, Tajamou Amel El Djazair (TAJ) President Fatima-Zohra Zerouati described the election as an important political milestone aimed at strengthening democratic practice. She said enhancing the role of elected institutions was essential to meeting citizens’ expectations and supporting the country’s economic and social development objectives.

Meanwhile, Workers’ Party (PT) Secretary-General Louisa Hanoune focused her campaign message on social issues during a local outreach event in Réghaïa, east of Algiers.

Hanoune stressed the importance of preserving the social character of the Algerian state, calling for stronger national cohesion and measures to protect purchasing power. She argued that national resilience depends on safeguarding the country’s resources and improving living conditions for vulnerable social groups, particularly retirees, in recognition of their contribution to national development and stability.

In Sétif province, Ennahda Movement Secretary-General Mohamed Douibi said high voter turnout on July 2 represented the “only effective means” of strengthening Algeria’s position at the regional and international levels.

Campaigning under the slogan “Together for a Strong Algeria,” Douibi called for collective efforts to advance the country’s development process during a local meeting in the town of Bougaâ, where he also inaugurated the party’s local campaign office.

Elsewhere, in El Bayadh, El-Fadjr El-Djadid party leader Tahar Benbaïbeche highlighted the responsibilities that would fall to newly elected lawmakers.

He said the next parliament would play a critical role in defending the principles of the state and addressing citizens’ concerns, particularly in areas such as housing and employment. Benbaïbeche added that substantive debate on policy programmes should remain the foundation of political engagement and institutional loyalty.

In Boussaâda, Party for Liberty and Justice (PLJ) President Djamel Benziadi said strong voter participation could help reinforce trust between citizens and state institutions.

He called for realistic political discourse and respect for campaign commitments, arguing that the National People’s Assembly (APN) should emerge as a strong legislative institution capable of reflecting social cohesion and representing the diverse components of Algerian society.

The legislative elections are scheduled to take place on July 2, with political parties intensifying their outreach efforts across the country during the official campaign period.
