Council of Ministers Meeting: Tebboune Issues Directives to Boost Industrial Sovereignty and Water Reform
By Dr. Hana Saada
During a Council of Ministers meeting held on Sunday, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune issued a series of firm directives to the government aimed at optimising the country’s hydrocarbon resources and industrial capabilities in support of domestic energy production and downstream manufacturing.
The President called for the enhanced exploitation of Algeria’s petroleum potential to ensure the local production of primary energy inputs, particularly those used in the manufacturing of plastics. The objective, according to the presidential instructions, is to reduce dependence on imports and strengthen national value chains within the broader framework of industrial sovereignty and economic diversification.
In the same session, Tebboune stressed the imperative of strict adherence to the orientations, instructions, decisions, and implementation deadlines previously set by the Council of Ministers. He underscored that the effectiveness of strategic projects hinges not only on planning but on rigorous execution on the ground, with the aim of advancing Algeria’s trajectory toward emerging-economy status.
The President further directed the expansion of Algeria’s water agencies across all municipalities nationwide, with the goal of improving distribution systems and strengthening the governance of water resources. This measure, according to the Council’s communiqué, is intended to enhance public service delivery and ensure more efficient management of a resource increasingly central to socio-economic stability.
