Talapa says Algeria is “a source of inspiration” for Mozambique as she highlights cooperation and institutional exchange in Algiers.

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique, Margarida Adamugi Talapa, was received on Sunday by the President of the Council of the Nation, Azouz Nasri, during an official visit focused on strengthening parliamentary and bilateral relations between Algeria and Mozambique.

During her visit to Council of the Nation structures, Talapa expressed strong interest in Algeria’s legislative process, parliamentary oversight mechanisms and institutional modernisation efforts.

At the conclusion of the meeting, she praised the commitment of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to reinforcing bilateral cooperation between Algiers and Maputo, saying she was “deeply grateful” for his continued support to Mozambique’s development and stability. She added that this solidarity reflects “the exceptional quality” of relations between the two countries.

Talapa also called for the consolidation of historical and fraternal ties between Algeria and Mozambique, describing them as rooted in a shared struggle for liberation and sovereignty. She stressed the need to translate this legacy into practical cooperation across economic, security, education and vocational training sectors.

She further noted that Mozambique has launched an inclusive national dialogue and reconciliation process aimed at strengthening social cohesion and democratic institutions, adding that Algeria’s experience in national reconciliation and peacebuilding represents “a valuable source of inspiration.”

Nasri, for his part, said discussions covered ways to deepen cooperation in economic, security, social and cultural fields, reaffirming Algeria’s readiness to strengthen shared gains and convert them into concrete development outcomes for both peoples.

Earlier in the day, Talapa laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial in Algiers and observed a minute of silence in tribute to Algeria’s war of independence martyrs during a ceremony attended by deputy parliamentary officials.
