Strong Egyptian–Algerian Football Diplomacy in Cairo: Walid Sadi Leads High-Level Engagements and Confirms FAF’s Continental Presence

BY Dr. Hana Saada

Cairo has hosted a series of high-level sporting and diplomatic engagements involving the President of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), Walid Sadi, in activities reflecting ongoing coordination between Algerian and Egyptian football authorities as well as broader regional football structures.

Sadi, who also serves as Minister of Sports, was received at the headquarters of the Egyptian Football Association in 6th of October City by EFA President Hany Abo Rida. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between the two federations, including the organisation of friendly and official matches across different categories, as well as cooperation in women’s football and the exchange of technical and administrative expertise, according to both sides.

Separately, Sadi participated in Cairo in a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Union of North African Football Federations (UNAF), attended by representatives of member associations. The meeting addressed the development of regional competitions and coordination mechanisms between federations, according to a statement from the Algerian Football Federation.

He also met USM Alger officials, including chairman Bilal Neouiha and sporting director Saïd Alik, to review preparations ahead of the club’s continental fixture against Zamalek, and followed the team’s training session prior to the match.

Sadi later attended the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final between Zamalek and USM Alger at Cairo International Stadium. The FAF has maintained regular institutional support for Algerian clubs participating in continental competitions, according to federation policy.

Sadi’s engagements in Cairo reflect a sustained institutional approach aimed at reinforcing Algeria’s presence within regional football governance structures and ensuring continuous support for national representatives in major continental competitions.
