Djamaâ El-Djazaïr, Grand Mosque of Paris: Toward a Strategic Framework for Religious Cooperation and Transnational Engagement

The Rector of Djamaâ El-Djazaïr, Cheikh Mohamed Maâmoun Al Kacimi Al Hassani, received the Rector of the Grand Mosque of Paris, Chems Eddine Hafiz, in a courtesy visit held in Algiers.
The meeting provided an opportunity to examine avenues of cooperation between the two religious institutions, while also addressing the situation of the Algerian community abroad. Both parties emphasized the necessity of intensifying efforts to strengthen the attachment of Algerian nationals overseas to their civilizational roots and to the national religious reference framework, grounded in moderation and balance, particularly in the face of rising ideological challenges and the proliferation of extremist and hate-driven discourse.
In this context, Cheikh Al Kacimi Al Hassani reaffirmed the readiness of Djamaâ El-Djazaïr to cooperate with the Grand Mosque of Paris, stressing the importance of coordinated action and the establishment of a structured framework of cooperation serving the Algerian community abroad. Such cooperation, he noted, could encompass the training of imams and female religious guides through scientifically grounded programmes designed to equip them with the necessary knowledge to convey the message of a tolerant Islam, correct misconceptions, and counter campaigns of defamation targeting Islam and its sacred sites.
For his part, the Rector of the Grand Mosque of Paris welcomed this initiative, calling for a “strategic cooperation” between the two institutions and underscoring the importance of integrating efforts in service of the Muslim community. He further noted that the Algerian religious reference framework is increasingly regarded as a credible and respected model, deemed particularly suited to reflecting the positive image of Islam in France, across Europe, and globally.
