French Colonial Administrator Hubert Lyautey Linked to Modification of Moroccan Flag in 1919

Moroccan historian Jamaâ Baïda has stated that French General Hubert Lyautey was responsible for adding the green five-pointed star to the Moroccan flag in 1919, which previously consisted of a plain red field.
Lyautey served as the first French Resident-General in Morocco following the 1912 Treaty of Fez, which established the French protectorate over the country.
The statement situates the evolution of the Moroccan flag within the broader colonial administrative period and the restructuring of state symbols under the French protectorate.
