Over 7,100 Spanish Sheep Arrive at Ténès Port Under Eid al-Adha Import Programme
By Dr. Hana Saada
More than 7,100 sheep imported from Spain were received on Sunday at the Port of Ténès, as part of Algeria’s programme to secure livestock supplies ahead of Eid al-Adha.
The shipment marks the third consignment handled at the Ténès facility since the launch of the import operation, according to Mehdi Kouadria, director of agricultural services in Chlef, who confirmed the cargo exceeded 7,100 head.
Veterinary teams conducted onboard inspections prior to unloading, with the animals subsequently transferred to designated quarantine zones for a mandatory seven-day observation period.
The latest delivery follows two earlier consignments received at the port since early April, comprising 8,100 and 9,100 sheep imported from Romania. Additional shipments are expected in the coming days.
The import programme forms part of broader measures to meet domestic demand for Eid livestock and ensure availability across Algeria’s provinces.
