Sahrawi Diplomacy in Namibia Gains Momentum as Senior Officials Reaffirm Support

In a renewed push to consolidate bilateral ties, the Sahrawi ambassador to Namibia, Hamdi Mayara, has stepped up high-level engagements in Windhoek, securing reaffirmed political backing and exploring avenues for deeper institutional cooperation.
During a meeting on April 29, Mayara was received by Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, where he outlined recent developments in the Western Sahara dossier and conveyed the Sahrawi people’s appreciation for Namibia’s longstanding solidarity. The Namibian official reiterated her country’s unconditional support for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and independence, while expressing interest in strengthening parliamentary cooperation between the two sides.
The following day, the ambassador held talks with Uahekua Herunga at the headquarters of the ruling SWAPO. Discussions focused on the trajectory of the decolonisation process in Western Sahara and on reinforcing ties between the Polisario Front and SWAPO, two movements historically linked through shared liberation struggles.
The exchanges underscored a mutual intent to elevate cooperation through expanded dialogue, knowledge-sharing and coordinated political engagement, reflecting a broader effort to translate historical solidarity into structured, forward-looking partnerships.
