Water Minister Inspects Beni Haroun Dam Pumping Station Serving Six Algerian Provinces
Water Minister Lounes Bouzegza inspected the main pumping station of the Beni Haroun Dam system in Mila, reaffirming the importance of preventive maintenance and operational readiness at one of Algeria’s largest strategic drinking water supply infrastructures.

ALGIERS — Minister of Water Resources Lounes Bouzegza conducted a working visit to Mila Province, where he inspected the main pumping station of the Beni Haroun Dam system, one of Algeria’s most strategic water supply infrastructures serving six provinces.
During the visit, the minister toured the principal pumping station, which forms part of the Beni Haroun hydraulic system responsible for supplying drinking water to the provinces of Mila, Constantine, Oum El Bouaghi, Batna, Khenchela and Jijel.
Bouzegza received a detailed technical briefing on the station’s operations, covering its operating mechanisms, maintenance procedures and preventive servicing programmes.
According to officials, the pumping station has a theoretical pumping capacity of 23 cubic metres per second, while its current daily water output stands at approximately one million cubic metres.
The minister was also briefed on the status of Beni Haroun Dam, whose current water reserves are estimated at approximately 830 million cubic metres.
During the inspection, Bouzegza stressed the importance of preserving the integrity of equipment and technical installations through regular preventive maintenance and ensuring immediate intervention whenever operational faults are detected.
He said such measures are essential to guaranteeing the uninterrupted delivery of public drinking water services while maintaining the operational readiness of one of the country’s most critical hydraulic facilities.
The minister also praised the Algerian engineers, technicians and workers operating the site, commending their professionalism, technical expertise and continued efforts in managing what he described as a strategic infrastructure that constitutes a cornerstone of water security for several provinces across the country.
