Algeria’s Minister of State for Hydrocarbons, Mohamed Arkab, held talks in Algiers on Monday with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, who is on a working visit to the country, according to a ministry statement. The meeting was attended by Sonatrach CEO Noureddine Daoudi and senior officials from the ministry.

The discussions reviewed the state of Algerian–American cooperation in hydrocarbons and explored avenues for expanding it into related sectors of mutual interest, including oil and gas equipment manufacturing and associated industrial technologies. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening dialogue and cooperation in support of sustainable and balanced development.

The minister highlighted ongoing exchanges between Algerian and US energy companies, notably Sonatrach, ExxonMobil and Chevron, and called for broader cooperation in downstream industries, low-emissions technologies, research and development, innovation, and advanced training in oil and gas technologies.

He also presented Algeria’s hydrocarbons development strategy, which prioritises intensified exploration, increased production capacity, resource valorisation and petrochemical expansion, supported by an investment-friendly framework and sustained investor facilitation.

Arkab pointed to the sector’s significant potential and invited US companies to seize investment opportunities in exploration, field development, digitalisation and carbon footprint reduction projects.

For his part, Christopher Landau expressed satisfaction with the level of bilateral relations, praising Algeria’s investment climate and the confidence shown by US companies in the Algerian market. He said American firms were keen to strengthen their presence through long-term partnerships with Algerian counterparts.
