Moroccan Anti-Normalisation Activist Rejects Claims of Iranian, Hamas and Hezbollah Involvement in Western Sahara Conflict
By Dr. Hana Saada
Ahmed Ouihman, head of the Moroccan Observatory Against Normalisation, has rejected claims linking Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas to the Western Sahara dispute, describing them as politically motivated and lacking evidentiary basis.
In remarks presented as a direct challenge to official narratives, Ouihman said there is no formal or documented support from Tehran, Hezbollah or Hamas for the Polisario Front, either politically or militarily. He argued that such assertions are being used to construct an external threat narrative that serves domestic and geopolitical agendas.
He further contended that the inclusion of Palestinian factions in the Western Sahara file amounts, in his view, to an attempt to reframe a territorial dispute through the lens of broader regional alignments, rather than grounded political facts.
Addressing a widely circulated video allegedly used to support claims of coordination between Hamas leadership and the Polisario Front, Ouihman said the footage had been misrepresented, stating that it related to an official visit to Mauritania and bore no connection to the Western Sahara question.
He suggested that the dissemination of such material reflects broader information strategies aimed at shaping public perception, particularly in relation to Morocco’s foreign policy alignments.
