Morocco Government Faces Opposition Criticism Over 325-Page Performance Publication Amid Cost-of-Living Pressures
By Dr. Hana Saada
Morocco’s government led by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch is facing criticism from opposition figures over the publication of a 325-page, high-quality report outlining what it describes as five years of policy achievements.
The document, produced in a glossy format, has been presented by the government as a comprehensive record of its work “in service of the nation.” However, the initiative has triggered debate in parliament, where opposition voices argue that political performance should be measured in household living standards rather than printed presentation.
Critics point to persistent cost-of-living pressures, including rising prices, weakened purchasing power among middle- and lower-income households, strains in public health and education services, and elevated unemployment and social inequality. They argue that these challenges contrast sharply with the optimistic framing of government performance contained in the report.
Opposition representatives questioned the allocation of public resources to a large-scale publication campaign, suggesting that priorities should instead focus on tangible economic relief measures, including price stabilisation, wage improvements, and stronger action against market distortions.
Some lawmakers described the report as a communication exercise aimed at showcasing policy achievements, while insisting that “real results are reflected in daily living conditions, not in the quality of publication materials.”
