Algeria and US Explore Deeper Cooperation in Strategic Mining and Critical Minerals Sector

Algeria’s Minister of Mines and Mining Industry, Murad Hanifi, held talks in Algiers on Monday with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, who is on a working visit to the country, according to a ministry statement. The meeting was attended by the Secretary of State to the Minister of Mines and senior officials from both sides.
Discussions reviewed the current state of bilateral cooperation in mining and mining industry development, and examined prospects for strengthening investment and partnership ties between institutions in both countries.
Both sides focused in particular on opportunities across the mining value chain, including the extraction and processing of mineral resources, with emphasis on strategic and critical minerals used in advanced technology industries and renewable energy systems.
The Algerian minister presented an overview of the sector’s development priorities, including ongoing and planned projects, as well as the legal and regulatory framework governing mining activities, highlighting investment facilitation measures and incentives aimed at attracting foreign partners. He called on US companies to seize available opportunities and contribute to the development of Algeria’s mining sector.
The two sides also underlined the importance of expanding international cooperation through increased exchange of expertise and the sharing of best practices, including potential partnerships between Sonarem Group and specialised institutions in exploration, extraction and mineral valorisation, particularly in relation to strategic minerals and industrial raw materials used in advanced manufacturing.
