ALGIERS — Algeria ranked as the third-largest container trade partner of Spain’s Port of Valencia during the first half of 2026, handling 156,822 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) and underscoring the continued expansion of commercial and logistics links between the two countries.

The performance comes amid a broader recovery in Algerian-Spanish economic relations, with bilateral trade reaching €8.43 billion in 2025, reflecting growing commercial exchanges following the recent normalisation of ties.

According to statistics published by the Valencia Port Authority, China remained the port’s leading container trade partner, accounting for 469,504 TEUs, up 25.14% from the same period a year earlier.

The United States ranked second with 167,540 TEUs, while Algeria secured third place with 156,822 TEUs, ahead of several major trading partners.

Turkey followed with 97,833 TEUs, while Italy handled 53,083 TEUs during the same period.

The figures highlight the strengthening of logistics and trade flows between Algeria and Spain, while reinforcing Algeria’s growing importance to the Port of Valencia, the largest container port in the western Mediterranean.
