New Algerian Parliament to Convene on July 28 as Newly Elected MPs Begin Mandate

ALGIERS — Algeria’s newly elected members of the People’s National Assembly (APN) will officially begin their parliamentary mandate on Tuesday, July 28, in accordance with Article 133 of the Constitution, marking the opening of the country’s new legislative term following the July 2 parliamentary elections.
Under the Constitution, the legislature must convene on the 15th day following the Constitutional Court’s proclamation of the final election results, which were announced on July 18.
The inaugural sitting will be chaired by the oldest elected member, assisted by the two youngest deputies, pending the election of the Assembly’s new leadership.
The opening session will complete the constitutional and legal procedures required to formally launch the new legislature. The election of the President of the People’s National Assembly is scheduled to take place the following day.
On July 30, lawmakers will elect the Assembly’s vice-presidents, the chairs of its standing committees, their deputies, and committee rapporteurs, completing the formation of the parliamentary leadership.
Ahead of the inaugural session, newly elected deputies have received official notifications by text message confirming that the validation of their parliamentary mandates will take place on July 28 at 10:00 a.m.
Members elected from Algeria’s 69 provinces (wilayas) are expected to report to the People’s National Assembly headquarters on July 26 and 27 to complete registration formalities and submit the administrative documents required before taking office.
