Algeria, Chad launch business council to accelerate trade and investment ties
By Dr. Hana Saada
The inaugural session of the Algerian-Chadian Business Council was held on Monday in Algiers, marking a step towards deepening economic cooperation between the two countries.
The opening session was chaired by Kamel Rezig, Minister of External Trade and Export Promotion, alongside Mathieu Guibolo Fanga, Chad’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, according to an official statement.
Mr Rezig described the council as an “operational mechanism” to translate longstanding political ties into concrete economic partnerships and joint investment projects. He said it reflected the shared commitment of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno to expand trade and strengthen bilateral cooperation.
He highlighted Algeria’s strategic push to deepen its economic engagement in Africa, describing Chad as a key partner in that effort. He pointed to ongoing initiatives to improve connectivity, including the development of air links between Algiers and N’Djamena and the activation of the trans-Saharan corridor linking Algiers to Lagos, aimed at facilitating the movement of goods and people.
Mr Rezig also called on Algerian businesses to seize opportunities in the Chadian market, pledging institutional support to encourage the presence of Algerian products and expand export activity.
Mr Fanga welcomed the launch of the council as an important step in strengthening economic ties, noting Chad’s resource base and investment potential. He invited Algerian investors to explore opportunities and develop joint projects that would benefit both economies.
The session provided a platform for business leaders from both countries to explore partnerships across multiple sectors, with the aim of boosting trade flows and advancing economic integration on a mutually beneficial basis.
