Latin American energy body chief visits Algeria to deepen cooperation ties

Andrés Rebolledo Smitmans, Executive Secretary of the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE), is set to begin a two-day working visit to Algeria on Tuesday, at the invitation of Mohamed Arkab.
The visit, according to a statement from the Ministry of Energy and Mines, marks a further step in strengthening Algeria’s partnership with OLACDE and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
During his stay, Mr Rebolledo Smitmans is expected to hold talks with senior Algerian officials, including the energy minister, and to visit key energy infrastructure sites across the country.
Algeria’s ministry highlighted what it described as a “privileged” relationship with the organisation, noting that the country joined OLACDE as an observer in 2001 before obtaining permanent observer status in 2018. It added that Algeria remains the only non-Latin American and Caribbean country to hold such a status.
