The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjal, received on Sunday a high-level delegation from the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG), led by Fayçal Trifa, in the presence of senior officials from the ministry and the Sonelgaz Group.

L’Algérie réaffirme ses engagements envers la Tunisie

According to a ministry statement, the meeting reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment, in line with presidential directives, to continue supporting Tunisia and strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the energy sector, reflecting the longstanding ties of solidarity and cooperation between the two countries.

On this occasion, the minister reiterated Algeria’s readiness to ensure continuity of electricity exports to Tunisia during the summer of 2026, despite strong domestic demand pressures during peak consumption periods.

He stressed that Sonelgaz remains committed to meeting Tunisia’s energy needs, especially during this critical seasonal period, given its strategic importance for the neighbouring country.

Discussions also focused on the planned trilateral electricity interconnection project between Algeria, Tunisia and Libya. The minister called for accelerating its implementation, describing it as a key step toward regional energy integration and enhanced cooperation.

Both sides also reviewed a proposal to build a 1,400-megawatt combined-cycle power plant in Tunisia, aimed at strengthening the country’s generation capacity.

The meeting further highlighted instructions to enhance coordination between Sonelgaz and STEG and to support Tunisian efforts in addressing its energy requirements, with the Tunisian side praising the quality of cooperation and expressing interest in Algerian expertise in the sector.

Both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening cooperation and expanding partnerships in order to strengthen energy security and support economic development in both countries and the wider region.
