ALGIERS — Algeria has delivered a military donation comprising four helicopters and additional equipment to Niger’s armed forces, in a move aimed at strengthening strategic bilateral cooperation, particularly in defence and security.

The operation was carried out under instructions from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defence, with Army General Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), ordering the handover, Algeria’s Ministry of National Defence said Sunday.

The military package includes two MI-24V helicopters and two MI-171 helicopters, which departed on Sunday, August 9, from the secondary deployment base at In Guezzam in Algeria’s 6th Military Region for Niamey.

The donation also includes ammunition for the helicopters, spare parts and equipment for maintenance, support and logistical operations. The additional material was transported to Niger aboard an Algerian military aircraft, according to the ministry.

Algeria’s Defence Ministry said the operation forms part of efforts to consolidate the historic and fraternal ties between the two countries and reflects Algiers’ commitment to supporting countries in the region, particularly in defence and security, expertise-sharing and broader forms of assistance.

The ministry added that Algeria intends to continue working with its partners to contribute to regional security and stability, placing the military donation within the wider framework of Algeria-Niger bilateral cooperation.
