ALGIERS — Interior Minister Saïd Sayoud chaired Sunday a meeting of the intersectoral commission responsible for reviewing compensation files for victims of forest fires, as the authorities move to complete the process of assisting citizens affected by the fires.
The work of the commission forms part of the finalization of the support process following field operations conducted by local committees under the supervision of the wali. These operations covered the identification, assessment and verification of the damage recorded, based on what the Interior Ministry described as an approach grounded in accuracy, objectivity and transparency.
The findings of these field assessments will serve as the basis for examining compensation claims and determining the amounts due, according to a statement from the Ministry of Interior, Local Assemblies and Transport.
Restoring livelihoods and daily life
Sayoud said the compensation process covers the various forms of damage established during the assessment operations, including homes, property, household belongings, agricultural crops, fruit trees, livestock and other losses.
The minister stressed that the initiative goes beyond the administrative processing of claims, describing it as a response to citizens whose property and livelihoods have been affected and an effort to help them restore their living conditions and activities as quickly as possible.
Fairness and transparency
Sayoud instructed the commission to accelerate the examination of files and complete the procedures, while ensuring that speed does not come at the expense of accuracy or integrity and that the information submitted accurately reflects the actual extent of the damage.
He further stressed that the compensation process must be based on objectivity, fairness, justice and transparency, so that every affected citizen receives the compensation to which they are entitled.
The minister also called for intensified efforts, closer coordination and daily monitoring, urging the various stakeholders to work as a team with the highest degree of vigilance and coordination.
The objective, he said, is to complete all compensation procedures within the prescribed timeframe and finalize compensation for all victims before the end of August 2026, in implementation of the instructions of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
