Three journalists from Morocco’s 2M television channel have been detained by Spanish authorities in Ceuta and their vehicle seized after they threatened Moroccan migrants to force them to give statements alleging that Spanish authorities had assaulted them, as the latest episode adds to the mounting tensions surrounding the Ceuta migration crisis.

CEUTA — Spanish authorities have detained three journalists from Morocco’s 2M television channel in Ceuta and seized their vehicle after the journalists threatened Moroccan migrants in an attempt to force them to make statements claiming that Spanish authorities had assaulted them.
The migrants revealed details of what happened on Friday, recounting how the journalists pressured them to provide accounts portraying Spanish authorities as having mistreated them.
According to the migrants, the journalists explicitly warned them: “If you don’t want to say this, the first day you return to Morocco, the police will arrest you.”
The incident comes amid a renewed migration crisis in Ceuta, where the arrival of Moroccan migrants has once again placed the Spanish-Moroccan border under intense security and political scrutiny.

The migration pressure on Spain takes on a broader geopolitical dimension in light of Madrid’s improving relations with Algeria. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s strategic visit to Algeria and the strengthening of bilateral energy cooperation have heightened sensitivities in both Rabat and Tel Aviv.
