Algeria, EU discuss Mediterranean energy cooperation, hydrogen projects
BY Dr. Hana Saada
Algeria’s Energy Minister Mourad Adjal held talks on Tuesday with European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica, focusing on strengthening cooperation in renewable energy, green hydrogen and energy efficiency, according to a ministry statement.

The meeting, held on Monday in Algiers with senior officials in attendance, reviewed prospects for deepening energy partnership between Algeria and the European Union, particularly in the Mediterranean region.
Both sides stressed the need to intensify regional cooperation and develop joint projects in renewable energy, hydrogen production and energy efficiency, as part of broader efforts to structure long-term energy ties across the Mediterranean basin.
Discussions also covered ongoing cooperation projects with European partners, including the planned electricity interconnection between Algeria and Italy and the SoutH2 Corridor project for hydrogen production and export to Europe. These initiatives are expected to reinforce energy exchanges between both shores and consolidate Algeria’s role as a stable supplier to European markets.
Adjal reaffirmed Algeria’s strategic interest in these projects, describing them as a foundation for sustainable and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two sides of the Mediterranean.
