Algerian Firms Mount Strong Showing at Nouakchott Trade Fair to Deepen Mauritania Ties
BY Dr. Hana Saada
More than 350 Algerian companies are taking part in the eighth Algerian Products and Services Fair in Nouakchott, marking one of the country’s largest economic presences in Mauritania.
The event was inaugurated on Monday by Algeria’s ambassador to Mauritania, Amine Sid, alongside Mauritanian Trade and Tourism Minister Zeinab Ahmednah, in the presence of senior officials and business representatives from both countries.
Participants span sectors including food processing, construction materials, pharmaceuticals, household appliances, services and technology, reflecting Algeria’s push to expand its commercial footprint in African markets.
New segments are also represented, notably private healthcare providers, as Algerian clinics and hospitals seek to attract regional patients. Startups are also present, highlighting efforts to diversify export offerings and enter new markets.
The ambassador said the fair would support efforts to strengthen bilateral economic ties, pointing to rising trade flows and cooperation agreements signed in energy, transport and industry during recent joint commission meetings.
Bilateral trade has exceeded $400m, according to official data, underpinned by closer economic coordination between Algiers and Nouakchott.
The event is expected to facilitate partnerships and support Algeria’s drive to expand its presence in West Africa.
