Algeria Sends Technical Delegation to Chad to Advance Trans-Saharan Highway Sections

An Algerian technical delegation is in Chad to prepare for the launch of two sections of the Trans-Saharan highway, as part of a wider regional infrastructure project, the Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure said on Tuesday.

The delegation visited the two project sites to assess current conditions and review the scope of works planned, while identifying potential technical and logistical constraints, the ministry said in a statement.

The field mission is aimed at finalising project assessments ahead of implementation. It also examined the geographical and topographical characteristics of the sites and their alignment with previously completed studies. The delegation held discussions with representatives of contracting companies on ways to improve performance and ensure delivery timelines are met.

The Algerian team includes officials from the Ministry of Public Works, the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development, Cosider Public Works, the National Public Works Company (SNTP), and the National Technical Control Organisation for Public Works (CTTP).

The visit follows instructions from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who ordered Algerian firms to undertake the construction of two Trans-Saharan highway segments in Chad during a recent cabinet meeting, as part of efforts to strengthen regional connectivity and infrastructure cooperation.
