Algeria Expands University Innovation Drive as Baddari Unveils 2025–26 Higher Education Results
Higher Education Minister Kamel Baddari presented the 2025–26 academic year review, highlighting gains in student entrepreneurship, research commercialisation, artificial intelligence integration, internationalisation and university infrastructure as Algeria advances reforms aimed at aligning higher education with economic development.

ALGIERS — Algeria’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, on Saturday presented the achievements of the 2025–26 academic year during the National Universities Conference, outlining progress in innovation, entrepreneurship, digital transformation, research commercialisation and student services as part of the country’s ongoing higher education reform agenda.
Presenting the annual review, Baddari said universities had labelled 559 student projects, while supporting the creation of 280 start-ups, 2,297 micro-enterprises, and 103 research-based spin-off companies, underscoring efforts to strengthen innovation and promote knowledge-based economic activity.
The minister also announced that five Algerian universities had obtained ISO certification, reflecting continued efforts to improve institutional governance and quality standards across the higher education sector.
Highlighting the digital transformation of universities, Baddari said the ministry had expanded the use of artificial intelligence as a pedagogical assistant. The AI-powered platform is designed to help newly graduated baccalaureate students select university programmes based on their academic profiles and labour market requirements.
He also pointed to the growing success of the “Study in Algeria” platform, noting that it continues to attract increasing interest from international students and supports the country’s strategy to enhance the global visibility of its higher education system.
As part of efforts to encourage innovation-led entrepreneurship, Baddari announced the launch of the second edition of the “Final Model” project, under which selected projects may receive funding of up to DA2 million, with priority given to technology-driven innovations.
On student welfare, the minister said renovation works had been completed at 2,283 accommodation facilities out of a total of 3,282 university residences nationwide, as part of an ongoing programme to modernise student housing infrastructure.
The initiatives form part of Algeria’s broader strategy to modernise its higher education system, strengthen the commercialisation of scientific research, foster entrepreneurship among graduates and better align university training with the evolving needs of the national economy.
