Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf held a phone call on Monday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, focusing on diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the Gulf region and reviving negotiations.

According to a statement from Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Araghchi outlined recent developments related to initiatives seeking to relaunch diplomatic talks to bring a definitive end to military escalation in the Gulf.

Mr Attaf, for his part, reaffirmed Algeria’s position in favour of sustained diplomatic engagement, stressing the need to mobilise all efforts to reach a political settlement to a conflict he said has affected the wider region.

He also expressed Algeria’s support for consolidating and reinforcing the current ceasefire as a step towards establishing the foundations of a broader political process capable of ensuring lasting and stable peace across the region.

The exchange reflects ongoing regional diplomatic consultations amid continued efforts to contain escalation and reopen negotiated channels.
