ALGIERS — Algeria has inaugurated its largest shopping mall in the western province of Mostaganem, marking a major private-sector investment valued at more than DZD 8 billion and expected to generate approximately 1,500 direct jobs while boosting commercial and tourism activity across western Algeria.
The AZ MALL GRAND MOSTA complex occupies more than six hectares and has the capacity to welcome over 20,000 visitors per day, making it one of the country’s largest integrated commercial and leisure developments.
According to the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI), the project ranks among Algeria’s largest private investments in the services sector and is intended to serve as a comprehensive commercial and entertainment hub for Mostaganem and neighbouring western provinces.
The complex brings together more than 200 retail outlets representing a mix of Algerian and international brands, alongside a broad range of leisure facilities designed to international standards.
These include an indoor amusement park, cinema complexes, fitness centres and Algeria’s first indoor karting circuit. The development also features a variety of modern restaurants and cafés, in addition to dedicated spaces showcasing both Algerian cuisine and international culinary traditions.
Beyond retail and entertainment, the project incorporates the Elite School, a specialised private training institution, reflecting a broader strategy of integrating investment with skills development and expanding complementary educational services.
The mall is expected to create around 1,500 direct jobs, while also generating additional indirect employment through commercial, logistics and service activities linked to the project.
Authorities also expect the development to strengthen Mostaganem’s position as a commercial and tourism destination by attracting visitors from across Algeria, supporting the hospitality sector and encouraging further investment in retail, leisure and related services. The project is expected to have particular significance during the summer season, when the coastal province experiences a sharp increase in tourist arrivals.
