CALGARY — Algeria is taking a prominent role at the Global Energy Show Canada 2026, held in Calgary from 9 to 11 June, as a senior delegation from the hydrocarbons sector seeks to promote investment opportunities and reinforce the country’s positioning in global energy markets.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Hydrocarbons, the Algerian participation forms part of one of the world’s most significant international energy gatherings, bringing together government officials, energy executives, investors and industry experts from across the globe.

The Algerian delegation is presenting a range of investment opportunities, including the “Algeria Bid Round 2026”, which comprises seven promising exploration blocks, as well as the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) megaproject. Both initiatives are being highlighted as strategic levers to attract international partners and consolidate Algeria’s role as a key global energy supplier.

The country’s participation reflects a broader strategy aimed at strengthening its international energy footprint, expanding partnerships with major global companies and attracting high-value investments essential to sustaining national economic development.

The delegation includes senior officials from the Ministry of Hydrocarbons, the Exploration Division of Sonatrach, and the National Agency for the Valorisation of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT), underscoring the institutional weight behind Algeria’s engagement at the event.

Discussions on the sidelines of the forum focused on investment and cooperation opportunities across the hydrocarbons value chain, including upstream exploration and development, petrochemicals, emissions-reduction technologies, carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects, environmental protection and efforts to reduce the sector’s carbon footprint.

Algeria also highlighted recent reforms aimed at improving the business climate and strengthening the attractiveness of its energy sector, particularly through the hydrocarbons law, which provides regulatory transparency, legal stability and enhanced incentives for foreign investors.

The opening session of the event featured remarks by Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, who underscored the strategic importance of the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline project. The initiative is designed to transport Nigerian natural gas to international markets, particularly Europe, via Algeria, reinforcing regional energy complementarity and global energy security.

The Algerian presence at the Global Energy Show underscores the country’s ambition to position itself as a reliable and indispensable energy partner at a time of shifting global supply dynamics and accelerating demand for diversified energy routes.
