Arkab, India’s SEEPCO Explore Expanded Energy Partnership Across Upstream and Downstream Operations

ALGIERS — Algerian Minister of State and Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies Mohamed Arkab held talks on Thursday with Mohit Barot, Chief Executive Officer of India’s Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Co. (SEEPCO), as both sides examined opportunities to deepen cooperation across Algeria’s hydrocarbons sector.
The meeting, attended by senior officials from the ministry, focused on prospects for expanding collaboration between Sonatrach and SEEPCO in hydrocarbon exploration, development and production, while also exploring opportunities for joint investment projects in Algeria and abroad, particularly across Africa.
Discussions covered the potential expansion of cooperation along the entire oil and gas value chain, including upstream development, refining, petrochemicals and technological innovation. The two sides also reviewed opportunities for technical cooperation in environmental protection, greenhouse gas reduction and efforts aimed at lowering the sector’s carbon footprint.
Arkab presented an overview of Algeria’s hydrocarbons development strategy, highlighting the investment opportunities available in exploration and production activities, as well as the incentives provided under Algeria’s hydrocarbons law to attract foreign investment. He underscored the country’s commitment to maintaining a transparent and competitive investment environment capable of supporting long-term partnerships.
The minister also outlined Algeria’s broader objective of strengthening international cooperation while expanding production capacity and enhancing the technological capabilities of the national energy sector.
For his part, Barot reaffirmed SEEPCO’s intention to strengthen its presence in Algeria and deepen cooperation with Sonatrach. He noted that the company is prepared to contribute advanced technologies and technical expertise, particularly in gas valorisation, resource optimisation and emissions-reduction solutions.
The Indian executive also praised Algeria’s position in international energy markets and highlighted Sonatrach’s expertise across multiple segments of the oil and gas industry.
