ALGIERS — Algerian Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion Kamel Rezig held talks on Thursday with Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, who is on an official visit to Algeria, as the two sides explored avenues for strengthening bilateral trade and expanding economic cooperation.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, the discussions focused on mechanisms to deepen economic relations, increase commercial exchanges and identify new areas of partnership between the two countries.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review the current state of bilateral relations and assess prospects for their further development, particularly in trade, investment and economic cooperation. Both sides examined measures aimed at increasing trade volumes and facilitating the movement of goods between economic operators in Algeria and Uzbekistan.

Particular attention was given to emerging opportunities linked to African markets, with both parties highlighting the potential offered by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as a platform for expanding commercial cooperation and strengthening access to regional markets.

In discussions on enhancing engagement between business communities, the two sides proposed the establishment of an Algerian-Uzbek Business Council. The initiative is intended to create an institutional framework capable of facilitating dialogue between economic operators and improving the exchange of information on available trade and investment opportunities.

The talks also underscored the importance of encouraging greater participation by companies from both countries in trade fairs, economic exhibitions and business events. Such initiatives were viewed as essential tools for promoting national products, identifying commercial opportunities and fostering direct partnerships between private-sector actors.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close coordination and consultation in support of bilateral economic cooperation. They also stressed the importance of increasing exchanges and visits between business communities as a means of strengthening commercial relations and enhancing integration into regional and international markets.
