Chaib Engages Algerian Diaspora in Belgium as Algeria Advances Consular Modernisation
By Dr. Hana Saada
MONS, Belgium — Secretary of State for the National Community Abroad Sofiane Chaib met members of the Algerian community in Mons and surrounding regions, as well as representatives of the Algerian diaspora residing in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, during the final stage of his working visit to Belgium.
The meeting, attended by Algeria’s Ambassador to Belgium and the Consul General in Brussels, forms part of ongoing efforts by Algerian authorities to strengthen direct engagement with citizens living abroad, assess their concerns and expectations, reinforce their ties with their country of origin and encourage greater participation in national life.
During the discussions, Chaib outlined a series of measures undertaken by the Algerian state in favour of the national community abroad, with particular emphasis on the modernisation and digitalisation of consular services, the simplification of administrative procedures and the improvement of service delivery.
The exchange provided a platform for direct dialogue between government representatives and members of the diaspora, allowing participants to raise concerns, present proposals and discuss ways to further enhance the quality of services provided to Algerian nationals residing overseas.
Earlier in the visit, Chaib toured the Algerian Consulate General in Brussels, where he reviewed the functioning of consular departments, assessed reception conditions for citizens and examined mechanisms put in place to address their administrative needs.
He also met Algerian nationals visiting the consulate to complete administrative procedures, holding discussions on the quality and accessibility of consular services and gathering feedback on measures aimed at improving their experience.
The visit reflects Algeria’s broader strategy of strengthening institutional engagement with its diaspora through enhanced communication, modernised public services and closer interaction between diplomatic missions and Algerian communities abroad.
