Algerian Governors Step Up Harvest Operations as Interior Ministry Accelerates National Grain Campaign Deck Coordinated field measures led by provincial governors—including equipment redeployment, expanded storage capacity and real-time monitoring—are accelerating Algeria’s nationwide grain harvest, reinforcing food security objectives under the government’s agricultural strategy. By Dr. Hana Saada ALGIERS — Algeria’s Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities and Transport announced that provincial governors across the country have intensified field operations and coordination measures to accelerate the national grain harvesting and threshing campaign, in line with directives from the country’s highest authorities and under the direct supervision of Interior Minister Saïd Sayoud. According to the ministry, governors have continued implementing a series of operational and organisational measures designed to ensure the smooth progress of the campaign across all participating provinces. These measures include holding regular assessment meetings, increasing field inspections, activating coordination, monitoring and vigilance units, and responding immediately to farmers’ concerns while removing obstacles encountered during the various stages of the harvest. As part of the nationwide logistical plan, harvesting machinery and agricultural equipment have been transferred from provinces that have completed harvesting operations to those where the campaign remains underway. Authorities have also mobilised surplus grain storage capacity in certain provinces to support regions experiencing heavy pressure on collection facilities. The ministry said these measures have helped optimise the use of national resources while strengthening inter-provincial coordination and solidarity throughout the campaign. According to the statement, the field actions overseen by provincial governors have contributed to accelerating crop collection and improving the overall efficiency of harvesting operations through enhanced coordination among all stakeholders. The ministry added that these efforts are consistent with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and reflect the effectiveness of the Interior Ministry’s oversight in ensuring that the national harvesting and threshing campaign is completed under optimal conditions and within the established timetable.
