Algerian Political Party Leaders Emphasise Competence and Institutional Renewal During Fifth Day of Legislative Election Campaign

ALGIERS — Algerian political party leaders used the fifth day of campaigning for the July 2 legislative elections to stress the importance of electing qualified representatives capable of strengthening parliamentary performance, supporting national development objectives and reinforcing public confidence in state institutions.

Campaign activities held across several provinces highlighted recurring themes including competence-based representation, youth participation, institutional effectiveness, economic development and national cohesion, as political parties sought to present their respective visions ahead of the vote.

Speaking in Algiers, National Liberation Front (FLN) Secretary-General Abdelkrim Benmbarek described the upcoming elections as an opportunity to renew political elites and strengthen trust between citizens and public institutions. He argued that Algeria requires competent representatives and responsible political actors capable of placing national interests above partisan considerations.

In western Algeria, Movement of Society for Peace (MSP) leader Abdelaali Hassani Cherif called for broader participation by all segments of society, particularly young people, in political life. During campaign events in Tlemcen, Sidi Bel Abbès and Oran, he advocated greater cooperation among political forces and urged wider integration of national expertise into decision-making processes.

Workers’ Party (PT) Secretary-General Louisa Hanoune, addressing supporters in Mostaganem and later in Oran, characterised the legislative elections as an important stage in consolidating achievements across multiple sectors. She reaffirmed her party’s commitment to social cohesion and encouraged candidates to intensify grassroots engagement with voters.

National Democratic Rally (RND) Secretary-General Monder Bouden focused on local development and citizen representation during campaign meetings in Chlef, Ain Defla and Blida. He said elected representatives should serve as an effective link between citizens and public institutions, while highlighting the participation of young candidates on the party’s electoral lists.

In Bou Saâda, Tajamou Amel El Djazaïr (TAJ) President Fatima-Zohra Zerouati presented the elections as an opportunity to expand the role of young people in public affairs. She encouraged voters to support candidates capable of assuming public responsibilities and contributing to the country’s development agenda.

From the same province, El Moustakbal Front President Fateh Boutbig called on voters to support candidates whom he described as selected from within society on the basis of competence. Similar messages were delivered during subsequent campaign events in M’Sila and Bordj Bou Arréridj, where he argued that the elections offer citizens an opportunity to choose representatives capable of articulating their concerns in parliament.

Sawt Echaab leader Lamine Osmani, speaking in Tissemsilt, advocated the development of a stronger electoral culture based on evaluating candidates according to their programmes and qualifications. He maintained that strengthening democratic institutions depends on electing representatives capable of effectively carrying out legislative and oversight responsibilities.

In the capital, Socialist Forces Front (FFS) First National Secretary Youcef Aouchiche presented his party’s electoral platform, titled The Oath of Sincerity and Credibility, as a programme designed to address citizens’ concerns through practical proposals and policy solutions. He also called for broad electoral participation and the election of qualified representatives.

Talaie El-Hourriyet President Réda Benounane, campaigning in Barika, described the legislative elections as an important mechanism for strengthening popular participation and advancing national development. He said voters would have the opportunity to select those they consider most capable of representing them within the National People’s Assembly.

National identity and social cohesion featured prominently in the campaign discourse of El-Bina Movement President Abdelkader Bengrina. Speaking in Chlef, he highlighted the importance of preserving Algeria’s historical memory and strengthening national belonging among younger generations. During a separate event in Relizane, he emphasised Algeria’s economic potential and called for greater support for productive investment, industrial development and export-oriented growth.

El-Karama Party President Mohamed Daoui used a campaign rally in Ain Témouchent to underline the central role of parliamentarians in legislative work, government oversight and the representation of citizens’ concerns. He urged voters to carefully evaluate candidates ahead of the election.

Meanwhile, National Militancy Front (FMN) Secretary-General Abdallah Haddad, addressing party activists and candidates in Mostaganem, described participation in the elections as a national responsibility. He called for increased field engagement and direct communication with voters to explain party programmes and encourage informed electoral participation.

The legislative elections, scheduled for July 2, are taking place within the framework of Algeria’s ongoing political and institutional renewal process. Campaign messages during the fifth day reflected broad consensus among political actors on the importance of competence, effective representation and citizen engagement as key elements in the formation of the next National People’s Assembly.
