El Oued Student Guia Ikhlass Tops Algeria’s 2026 Middle School Certificate Examination

ALGIERS — Guia Ikhlass, a student from the commune of Guemar in El Oued Province, achieved the highest score nationwide in Algeria’s 2026 Middle School Certificate (BEM) examination, securing first place with an average of 19.80 out of 20, according to the Ministry of National Education.
Ikhlass, who studies at the Khalifa Ben Hassan Middle School in Guemar, topped the national rankings among successful candidates in this year’s examination session, which drew hundreds of thousands of candidates from across the country.
Second place was awarded to Mezredi Rana, a student at Bedjaoui Larbi Middle School in Biskra Province, who achieved an average score of 19.65.
The third-highest national result was recorded by Boubidi Besmala of Mohamed Ben Boulaïd Middle School in Arris, Batna Province, with an average of 19.60.
The three students led the national rankings released alongside the official results of the 2026 examination session, highlighting strong academic performances across several regions of the country.
The Ministry of National Education announced earlier on Sunday that the national pass rate in the 2026 Middle School Certificate examination reached 65.19%, with more than 559,000 school candidates successfully obtaining the certificate and qualifying for the next stage of their educational journey.
