BEM 2026 Results: National Pass Rate Reaches 65.19%
BY Dr. Hana Saada
ALGIERS — Algeria’s Middle School Certificate (BEM) examination recorded a national pass rate of 65.19% in the June 2026 session, according to figures released by the Ministry of National Education on Sunday.
The ministry said the pass rate among school candidates stood at 65.19%, representing a decline of slightly more than two percentage points compared with the previous year.
A total of 877,046 candidates, including both school and independent candidates, were registered for the examination. Of the 857,849 school candidates who sat the exam, 559,214 successfully obtained the certificate.
Independent candidates recorded a more modest outcome, with 2,142 successful candidates out of 7,597 who took the examination.
While the 2026 results were lower than the 67.56% pass rate achieved in 2025, the figures nevertheless reflected continued large-scale participation and a generally solid level of academic achievement nationwide.
Among the 559,214 successful school candidates, 6,302 obtained the highest distinction, while 46,408 received Honours. A further 89,949 candidates achieved High Merit and 153,377 obtained Merit distinctions.
The ministry also indicated that 74.39% of successful candidates would be directed toward the first year of general and technological secondary education, a figure expected to play a significant role in shaping enrolment levels across the country’s secondary school system for the upcoming academic year.
Female students secured the top three positions nationally. First place was awarded to Quia Ikhlas, a student at Allama Khalifa Ben Hassan Middle School in Qamar, El Oued Province, who achieved an average score of 19.80 out of 20.
She was followed by Mazrudi Rana, from Djaoui El Arabi Middle School in Biskra Province, with an average of 19.65, while Boubidi Basma, a student at Mohamed Ben Boulaïd Middle School in Arris, Batna Province, ranked third nationally with a score of 19.60.
