GENEVA/ALGIERS, July 9 — Algérie Télécom has received international recognition from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for an artificial intelligence initiative aimed at advancing digital inclusion, marking a new milestone in Algeria’s efforts to strengthen digital transformation and technological innovation.

The distinction was awarded during the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum, held in Geneva from July 6 to 10, where the state-owned telecommunications operator was recognized for its project, “AI for Digital Inclusion (AIDI).”

The award was presented in the presence of Algeria’s Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, and bears the signature of ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin, according to a statement issued by the ministry.

Algérie Télécom’s project received an ITU Certificate of Recognition after being selected among the winning initiatives in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Infrastructure category.

According to the ministry, the project was recognized for its contribution to advancing digital transformation and supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the application of artificial intelligence to expand digital accessibility and inclusion.

The ministry described the distinction as further international recognition of Algeria’s growing role in digital innovation and its efforts to harness emerging technologies to modernize telecommunications infrastructure and promote inclusive digital development.

The award comes as Algeria continues to expand investment in digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence and e-government initiatives as part of broader efforts to accelerate the country’s digital transformation agenda.
